Hospitals
1.Rappahannock General Hospital is an independent, non-profit community hospital located in Kilmarnock on the eastern end of the Nothern Neck peninsula.
2.Riverside Tappahannock Hospital is located in Essex County adjacent to the Rappahannock River. RTH is a full service community hospital based in Tappahannock, Virginia. The hospital is licensed for 60 acute and 7 intensive care beds, has extensive outpatient diagnostic testing capabilities and operates a 24 hour emergency department servicing over 20,000 visits per year. The hospital also offers home health, therapy, and hospice services to the community.
3.Riverside Walter Reed Hospital is in Gloucester County, with state-of-the-art technology, plus affiliate staff in Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology, it has 71 beds, and a 24-hour Emergency Center, complete range of outpatient services and the Riverside Dialysis Center.
4.Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital is a full service, fully accredited hospital located in Nassawadox, VA. This hospital is licensed for 143 beds, including a 13-bed Skilled Nursing facility and a 14-bed Mental Health Unit. It also offers a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, Radiology, Intensive Care Unit and Surgery Departments.
Federally Qualified Health Clinic
Westmoreland Medical Center- offers primary medical care, including clinical visits, laboratory services, x-ray services and medications. As a community health center, WMC offers patients medications from a 340B pharmacy. Qualifying patients are enrolled in the Medication Assistance Program.
Rural Health Center
Family Maternity Center of the Northern Neck (FMCNN) will open in 2010 in Lancaster County, VA. A midwife/physician practice, the planned facility includes a freestanding birth center and will offer group prenatal care based on the Midwifery Model of Care. FMCNN will provide family-centered, cost-effective maternity and pediatric services to residents living predominately in the eastern portion of the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck of Virginia.
Statewide FQHC Management Company
Central Virginia Health Services Inc. - (CVHS) operates Westmoreland Medical Center and nine other Virginia rural clinic sites. All providers are evaluated on a series of criteria that include productivity, clinical measures, participation in the quality improvement programs, patient satisfaction survey results, and community involvement.
Area Health Education Center
Rappahannock Rural Health Development Center has successfully managed a number of federal grant projects, including the Community Health Partners sponsored by a HRSA Outreach Grant, and led the efforts to form the Telemedicine Consortium sponsored by the current HRSA Network Development Grant, and the Family Maternity Center of the Northern Neck.
Virginia Department of Health District
Three Rivers Health District (TRHD), the local public health district, operates Healthy Start and Resource Mothers programs which target new and expectant moms. TRHD provides a number of services, including Environmental Health, Family Planning, Immunizations, Communicable Disease Investigation, WIC, health screenings and other public health activities, but does not deliver primary health care. TRHD has an internal telecommunications network. Many of the public health education programs offered by the Virginia Department of Health are delivered by telehealth conferencing equipment.
Teaching Hospitals and Telemedicine Departments
1. VCU Health System is an academic medical center, not-for-profit health system in Richmond, VA. The VCUHS Telemedicine Department has worked to establish telemedicine linkages in the service area for over six years. VCUHSC Telemed provides telemedicine care as part of the Virginia Department of Corrections Network. The Telemedicine Department has developed procedures for patient scheduling, billing and HIPAA compliance and disease-specific protocols for telemedicine procedures.
2. University of Virginia Office of Telemedicine has been instrumental in providing both technical expertise and medical tele-consultation protocols that can be adapted for use by the Network. Along with specialty care capabilities, the UVA Care services include providers in Family medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Geriatrics.
Senior Safety Net Agency
Bay Aging A nonprofit organization that serves the elderly and disabled throughout the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. Our services address critical needs through four major divisions- Health Services, Bay Transit, Senior Apartments and Single Family Housing. Your gateway to comprehensive care begins with Care Coordination to assess and determine cost-effective options to meet the needs. Fees are based upon a client’s ability to pay.
Health Service programs include: Home Care, Alzheimers Support Groups, Legal Aid, Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Meals on Wheels, MedCarry, Adult Day Break Centers (day care), Active Lifestyle Centers (senior centers). The Active Lifestyle Center located in The Meadows senior apartments in Colonial Beach, is the first Bay Aging location to establish a telehealth connection. This system is part of the infrastructure for the telehealth network.
Bay Transit: Public transportation provider for the Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck, Charles City County and New Kent County. A low-cost, effective transportation system for ALL people, of ALL ages, for ALL reasons.
Senior Apartments: Affordable, attractive, quality built independent living homes for people 62 years and older with incomes not exceeding 50% of the area median income. Apartment locations include: The Meadows, Colonial Beach; Mill Pond Village, Montross; Winters Point, West Point; Daffodil Gardens, Gloucester; Tartan Village, Kilmarnock; Port Town Village, Urbanna and Parker Run in Montross. Coming soon are Tartan Village II in Kilmarnock and Parker View in James City County.
Single Family Housing: Programs are not age restricted and offer significant opportunities for home rehabilitation and repair through Emergency Home Repair, Weatherization and Indoor Plumbing Rehabilitation Loan Program.

VHQC | Healthcare Quality is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that provides services to a range of clients who are interested in assessing and improving the quality of healthcare for a variety of populations. VHQC’s clients include federal and state agencies, healthcare providers, managed care organizations, and commercial insurers in Virginia and throughout the nation. Mental Health Community Services Board
Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board
Sites are equipped with teleconferencing equipment and telecommunications capabilities. Their mission is to serve the mental health needs of their local communities. Community Services Boards serve those who are diagnosed with cognitive disabilities and/or mental health conditions. Remote psychiatry is a proven application for telemedicine applications.
CSBs offer varying combinations of six core services:
1. Emergency services (mandated)
2. Local inpatient services
3. Outpatient and case management services
4. Day support services
5. Residential services
6. Prevention and early intervention services
* CSBs exist to provide individualized, effective, flexible, and efficient treatment, habilitation, and prevention services in the most accessible and integrated yet least restrictive setting possible. CSBs draw upon all available community resources along with people’s natural support systems (family, friends, work) to ameliorate the effects of mental disabilities and substance use disorders, encourage growth and development. support recovery and self-determination, and assist individuals to realize their fullest potentials. CSBs serve as the single points of entry into publicly-funded mental health, mental retardation, and substance abuse services for their service areas, including access to state mental health and mental retardation facility services through preadmission screening, case management, and coordination of services.
